Seminar on Tanzanian Constitution in London (UK) and Shakespeare in Swahili

SEMINAR ON TANZANIAN CONSTITUTION IN LONDON (UK) The event will be on Tuesday 22nd May 2012, in the House of Commons at 6.00pm, on The Tanzanian Constitution: A New Beginning? This event is sponsored jointly by the All-Party Parliamentary Committee on Tanzania and the Britain Tanzania Society. The timing of this is very relevant, because Tanzania is in the process of re-writing its constitution, in time for the next elections in 2015, and the consultation has already raised important questions about the powers of Parliament and the Presidency. Speakers: Professor Mike Jennings from SOAS, Frederick Longino whose article on the subject is in the current issue of Tanzanian Affairs, and (provisionally) the High Commissioner for Tanzania, Mr Peter Kallaghe. Numbers will be limited, so if you would like to come, could you email me and I will send you a formal letter of invitation. Finally there will be an all-day Workshop on Saturday 13 October, in Redditch Town Hall, on Tourism in Tanzania: Making a Success of it. This is being run jointly with the Redditch One World Link. Redditch has been twinned with Mtwara for more than 20 years. We are putting together a very interesting programme for this - and will contact you again nearer the time. But if you can get to Redditch, about 12 miles South of Birmingham and easily accessible by train, then book the date now. For more information on any of the above, contact Andrew Coulson, on a.c.coulson@bham.ac.uk or phone             0121 475 4615       Shakespeare The Globe theatre in London is having an international season this Spring, and as part of this thereare two Swahili Shakespeareperformances of the Merry Wives of Windsor performed by a women's theatre group from Nairobi http://globetoglobe.shakespearesglobe.com/plays/the-merry-wives-windsor/english-20 for more details.
